Last year’s students flew out of the country (weeping into their hankies) and left behind a collection of wonderful and useful household items. We have collected and curated them and will be polishing them up and making them available to our members – all entirely for free!

So come along with your proof of membership (confirmation email) and collect anything and everything you want! The items will go on a strictly first-come-first-served basis; so get here on time or early to avoid disappointment!

Organized for you by British friends of the International Society, this is an opportunity to meet both other members and local people and enjoy a relaxed and informal evening of live ‘folk’ music! You don’t have to be a performer, but we’ll encourage you to join in with our songs, which will deepen your knowledge of our culture and history. These are always great evenings and a good opportunity to make new friends. Tickets include refreshments.

If you would like to perform, whatever your instrument (or if you are a singer) or your level of ability, here is your chance to do so for a friendly, appreciative audience. Music from your own country is especially welcome. To register your interest and get more details please complete the contact form below:

Afternoon Tea

Sunday 30th September

FREE! (members only)

Come along and enjoy a Traditional English Afternoon Tea. Sandwiches and cakes and more cakes for everyone! We’ve invited the Queen, Prince Harry and Megan Markle but they haven’t got back to us yet. Maybe their confirmation letter got lost in the post…

Please note that this is a members only event and tickets must be claimed in advance so that we know how many sandwiches and cakes to make.

International Book Club

Friday 12th October 6:00 pm
@ International Society, Oxford Road
FREE (members only)
Tea and coffee provided

All are welcome to our very first International Book Club commencing October 2018. We will be meeting once a month to discuss international books in a warm and friendly environment.

The first book we will discuss is Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel Homegoing:
“Published in 2016, the highly acclaimed novel, spanning seven generations of narratives, is a profound history lesson for the world.  Homegoing is a feat; a multi-layered and epic novel that stunningly and dramatically condenses centuries of oppression and pain in a few hundred pages of riveting reading” (Dr Sadia Habib, The Bookslamist).

Throughout the year, we hope you will nominate and vote for books on the themes of identity and belonging.
