Volunteer: events

The International Society holds a wide variety of events throughout the year and all are organised by our dedicated volunteers. Our national evenings are organised exclusively by the International 16.

The group is selected through interviews at the start of the year and work together on the national evenings and other projects all year long. To find out more about the International 16 and how to apply to take part click on the link below.

Event policy

Have any questions about our events? Find out more below.

Where do the events take place?

Our events will be taking place online and in-person on campus. For our in-person events, this will be hosted at various venues across the University of Manchester.

How are we making our events safe for you?

Most of our events include refreshments and our trips will require you to be sat on a coach for an extended period of time. As such, we have made the decision to require all participants to undertake a lateral flow test before attending our activities.

The reason we are asking all participants to perform a lateral flow test is because most of our members are international students and we understand that some of you may not have yet had access to the Covid vaccine or have a vaccine that is not being recognised in the UK and as such are not able to obtain a Covid pass. In this way, we want to do the best we possibly can to ensure that you are able to make friendships and have a great time at university.

Please see the next tab on how to perform a lateral flow test and report your results.

In order to keep everyone safe and for us to continue organising our events in a safe way for everyone, we highly recommend that all participants download the NHS track and trace app here and continue to wear a face mask while walking around inside buildings.

Staff will be wearing PPE such as masks or visors and disposable gloves when handling food.

Please do not attend an event on campus if you have symptoms of Covid-19, including a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

How to perform a lateral flow test and report your results?

Performing a lateral flow test

You can order a set of 7 lateral flow test online here which will take 1-2 days to be delivered to your accommodation or you can collect them on campus from the reception desk at the student’s union or any of the campus catering outlets, Food on Campus (Please check opening times from the link provided) The lateral flow test is FREE, you do not have to pay for the self-testing kit.

The test must be done no longer than 12 hours before the start of the event/trip. We recommend that for trips, you perform the test the night before and for events you perform the test in the morning.

Instructions on how to do the test are provided within the pack.

Once you have performed the test, you will need to report the results of your test.

Reporting your results

You can only report the results of your lateral flow test online. You are not able to do it through the app. Click here to report your results. Once you have reported your results, you will receive an email and a text from the NHS. That email/text along with your registration for our events will enable you to attend our events. You do not have to print the email/text or your ticket if you have a smart phone. Please be ready to show us the email/text from the NHS on your phone when you attend our events.

What are member only events?
