about the project

Each year the project brings together sixteen students from sixteen different countries to share stories about their lives and cultures.

International 16 is a diverse group of 16 students from 16 different countries. The group provides the inspiration and creativity for cultural events promoting international peace and friendship, celebrating cultural diversity and connecting with people around the world.

In addition to showcasing the potential for internationalising the student experience, the group provide a core team of volunteers for the Society.

The International 16 was without any doubt the greatest experience during my Exchange. Being alone in a new country is quite scary, but the International 16 gives you the opportunity to make friends who are in your same situation.

It really gives you a great sense of belonging and at the same time it teaches you to value your own culture and traditions while sharing them with others

Irene Vázquez Clement, Spain

It felt like there were so many people and I didn’t know anyone and I was in a different country. So I joined the International Society and the International 16. I knew that at any time, I knew there was someone I could ask.

Jason Shongwe, South Africa

SELECTION PROCESS

The 16 students change each year and are selected during the last two weeks of September through interviews at the International Society. The interviews are relaxed and informal. If selected you will be part of a unique cultural and educational experience.

If you are interested in being part of the coming year’s 16 please come in to our office to book yourself in for an informal interview during the last week in September. The project generally requires students to be in Manchester from October to the following June (excluding holidays) and requires a commitment of one evening per week during term time and one weekend every fortnight for event organising.

There is no cost if you are selected to be part of the group.

This group is only applicable for members
